NJ Athletic Trainers Forge Relationship with SSI to Promote Concussion Education
The Athletic Trainers’ Society of New Jersey (ATSNJ), a leading resource in concussion education for health care professionals, athletes, coaches and parents, announced today it has forged a relationship with Sport Safety International, an organization dedicated to providing sport safety enducation, to help introduce “Concussion Wise™” an online concussion education program designed for athletic trainers and other health care professionals. The program will be made available immediately. “Concussion Wise™” is designed to meet the educational needs of athletic trainers and other health care providers throughout the nation. This course, which is approved for athletic trainer continuing education by the Board of Certification, Inc., also satisfies educational requirements established by New Jersey’s new concussion law, which requires all athletic trainers licensed in the state to complete a course in concussion management. The course also meets the recommendations contained in the concussion model policy recently released by the New Jersey Department of Education. This interactive online course, which is available today, on the ATSNJ’s website, is the first of its kind in New Jersey. “Concussion Wise™” for athletic trainers will focus on the latest scientific and evidence based research of concussion education, prevention and management. Additionally the course is designed to provide an understanding of the key points of concussion legislation in New Jersey. “The demand for concussion education or health care providers has been accelerating over recent months,” said Eric Nussbaum, ATSNJ President. “As one of the leading resources in concussion education, it was important to the ATSNJ to provide our membership access to this comprehensive concussion online learning opportunity.” “We are thrilled to be working with the ATSNJ to offer a program that meets the needs of the ATSNJ and its members,” said Dr. Robb Rehberg, co-founder of Sport Safety International and author of the Concussion Wise™ program. “The course provides a quality educational opportunity for health care professionals who may not have the time or flexibility in their schedules to attend additional symposiums or lectures.” Concussion Wise™ for Athletic Trainers is available at http://www.atsnj.org. Similar courses designed for athletes, coaches and parents will be available in the near future, free of charge. “The ATSNJ hopes that these courses will become a staple of education within the interscholastic and recreational sports community,” stated Eric Nussbaum
